Forum 4: Swatchey Schemey

Image
For this Forum Assignment, I used InDesign to select color swatches from a photo and use those swatches for a series of nameplates. I took this photo of the sunset at the beach, and I decided the colors in the photo would be perfect for my swatches. I uploaded it to InDesign and got a color theme of the photo. I then made two other color tints for each of the color schemes and made a set of color swatches.  This is the set of tints I created. I then used the rectangle tool to make the backgrounds of the nameplates and used the text tool to make them say what I wanted them to say. Next, I used the colors from my swatch palette for the colors of the words and background of my nameplates. Here are three nameplate samples I created!

Forum 3: What Do You Meme?

Image
For this assignment, I used a photo of my sister and I that we took at a taco-themed museum where we are holding giant bottles of hot sauce. Now that there is a COVID-19 outbreak, and grocery stores are selling out of many products, I found a picture in an article online of empty grocery store shelves with frustrated people trying to shop. I thought of this as a perfect opportunity for a meme about how much my family loves hot sauce... so much that we sold out the whole store! Using Photoshop, I took the selection tool and outlined my sister and me with our giant bottles of hot sauce, and copied the selected layer onto the grocery store photo. I then used a smart filter to add a gaussian blur onto the picture of my sister and me. I then added a brightness and contrast layer. Lastly, I added text to the picture and added a stroke to the text to make it a MEME!

Creating Filters on Photoshop When editing these photos in Photoshop, I first wanted to make them more colorful since the colors in the original pictures were dull. I added a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, and after playing with the settings I decided to bring down the Hue of the photo to -27 and bring up the Saturation to 28. I found that doing this intensified the green of the leaves and other bright colors in each photo. Next, I added a Curves adjustment layer in hopes to make the greens a bit greener, since each of these pictures has quite a lot of green subject. I started with the RGB Curve layer, added a point in the center of the curve and brought it down a small amount. I then moved to the Green Curve layer and added a couple points to add a vibrant green to all of the leaves. Next, I added a Levels adjustment layer and moved the two endpoints of the scale in a bit, which increased the black and white points of the photos. Lastly, I added a Brightness/Contrast ...

Forum 1: Compositions of High Point University

Image
Aiming for Perfect Angles From reading and watching the articles and videos about Composition provided for the class, I decided to try applying my newly learned techniques to photos of High Point University. I walked around our beautiful campus and took pictures of the buildings, landscapes, and sights, attempting to add elements of composition to capture stunning photos. Symmetry & Pattern When working with subjects such as architecture, symmetry and pattern make for a powerful shot. This picture I took of the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication displays elements of symmetry and pattern because of the two sides of the picture mirror each other, and the windows of the building display a pattern. To ensure that the two sides of the photo mirrored each other, I stood towards the center of the building while taking the picture and aimed the camera straight forward.  Landscape Composition When taking a landscape shot, it is essential to focus on the compositio...
